# What are sub-events?

> Break a main event into multiple child events — ideal for festivals or multi-room nights.

Sub-events allow you to break a main event into multiple child events. This is ideal for festivals, multi-room nights, or events with separate areas or stages — each with its own lineup, tiers, and booking availability.

***

## Example use cases

* **Festival** — Main event "Summer Festival" with sub-events for Stage A, Stage B, and the VIP Terrace.
* **Multi-room club night** — Main event "Saturday Night" with sub-events for Room 1 (House) and Room 2 (Hip-Hop).
* **Venue takeover** — Main event with sub-events for different areas or time slots.

***

## How sub-events work

* The **main (parent) event** is what customers see on the event listing.
* Each **sub-event** has its own name, description, date/time, and booking tiers.
* Customers browse the main event, then select a sub-event to book into.
* Availability is tracked independently per sub-event.

> **Important:** A main event can have either sub-events OR direct booking tiers — not both. If you add sub-events, the booking tiers belong to the sub-events, not the parent.

***

## Setting up sub-events

1. Open the main event in the admin panel.
2. Scroll to the **Sub-Events** section and click **Add Sub-Event**.
3. Fill in the sub-event details:
   * Name (e.g., "Stage A", "VIP Terrace")
   * Date and time
   * Description
4. Add booking tiers to the sub-event (these are the ticket types / reservation options for that specific area or stage).
5. Repeat for each sub-event.
6. Save and publish the main event.

***

## Can sub-events be recurring?

Yes. Sub-events can have their own recurrence schedule, or they can inherit the recurrence from the parent event. For example, a recurring Saturday night event can have sub-events for Room 1 and Room 2, with each occurrence generating individual dates for both rooms.

***

## How do I manage bookings for sub-events?

In the **Events & Bookings** section:

1. Select the main event from the event dropdown.
2. A second **Sub-Event** dropdown appears — select the specific sub-event you want to view.
3. You'll see bookings for that sub-event only.

You can also filter by occurrence if the sub-event is recurring.

***

## How do customers book sub-events?

1. The customer opens the main event page.
2. They see the list of sub-events (e.g., Stage A, Stage B).
3. They tap the sub-event they want to attend.
4. They select their booking tier and proceed to payment.

Customers can book multiple sub-events within the same parent event (separate bookings).
