# How do I create an event?

## Step-by-step: creating your first event

1. Log in to the admin panel and select your venue.
2. In the left menu, click **Events**.
3. Click **Create Event**.
4. Fill in the event details (see fields below).
5. Add at least one booking tier (ticket type or reservation option).
6. Click **Save** and then **Publish** when you're ready to go live.

## Event details explained

### Basic information

| Field | Description |

| **Description** | Tell customers what to expect: lineup, dress code, atmosphere, age restrictions |
| **Date & Time** | Start and end date/time. For recurring events, you'll set a schedule instead |
| **Venue / Location** | Defaults to your venue address. You can override it for off-site events |

| **Age restriction** | Minimum age for entry (e.g. 18+) |

### Media

| Field | Description |
| ---------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Banner image** | Main image shown at the top of the event page (recommended: 1200×675 px) |
| **Event video / reel** | Short video clip to showcase the atmosphere (shown in the app's video feed) |
| **Floor plan** | Optional image of your venue layout, useful for table reservation events |

### Status

A new event is created in **Draft** status. It is only visible to admins until you publish it.

## Adding booking tiers

After saving the event, you need to add at least one booking tier so customers can book:

1. From the event page, click **Add Booking Tier**.
2. Choose the type: **Ticket** (entry pass) or **Reservation** (table/area).
3. Set the name, price, and availability.
4. Save the tier.

You can add multiple tiers to offer different pricing levels (e.g., Early Bird, Standard, VIP Table).

See [What types of booking options can I offer?](../tickets-and-booking-options/booking-option-types) for full details.

***

## Publishing your event

When you're happy with the event details and tiers, click **Publish**. The event will immediately appear on XO for customers to browse and book.

> **Tip:** You can save a draft and come back to finish it later before publishing.

***

## Can I edit an event after publishing it?

Yes. You can edit most event details at any time. Changes to the event name, description, and media take effect immediately. Changes to pricing or availability on booking tiers may affect existing bookings — take care when editing tiers that already have confirmed bookings.

## What types of events can I create?

| Event type | Description |
| ------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **One-time event** | A single date and time. The most common type |
| **Recurring event** | Repeats on a schedule (e.g., every Friday). See [Recurring Events](recurring-events) |
| **Event with sub-events** | A parent event with multiple child events (e.g., a festival with multiple stages). See [Sub-Events](sub-events) |
