# Can I scan tickets without selecting a specific event?

> Event-specific, sub-event, occurrence, and venue-wide scanning modes explained.

Yes. XO supports multiple scanning modes depending on your door management needs. You can scan for a specific event, a specific sub-event, a specific date occurrence, or scan any pass at your venue regardless of which event it belongs to.

## Available scanning modes

### Event-specific scanning

Scans are validated against a specific event. Use this when you're running a single event and want to ensure only passes for that event are accepted.

**How to activate:**

1. Go to **Events & Bookings** in the admin panel.
2. Select your event from the event dropdown.
3. Click the **Scan** button.
4. Only valid passes for that event will be accepted.

### Sub-event scanning

Scans are validated for a specific sub-event (room, stage, or area). Use this when you have a multi-room or multi-stage night and staff are checking in at different entrances.

**How to activate:**

1. Select the main event from the event dropdown.
2. Select the specific sub-event from the sub-event dropdown.
3. Click the **Scan** button.

### Occurrence-specific scanning (recurring events)

Scans are validated for a specific date occurrence of a recurring event. Use this when your event runs every week and you want to ensure tonight's passes are accepted.

**How to activate:**

1. Select the event.
2. Select the occurrence (date) from the occurrence dropdown.
3. Click the **Scan** button.

### Venue-wide scanning

Scans validate any entry pass for any active event at your venue. Useful when you have multiple events running simultaneously and want one team scanning for all of them.

**How to activate:**

1. Go to **Events & Bookings**.
2. Do not select a specific event — leave the event dropdown on **All Events**.
3. Click the **Scan** button.

## Which mode should I use?

## Important notes

* Scanning requires a stable internet connection on the device.
* Multiple staff members can scan simultaneously on different devices in any mode.
* In venue-wide mode, the system still validates the pass — it just doesn't restrict it to a single event. Invalid, declined, or cancelled passes are still rejected.
